Hello friends,

In this tutorial you will learn how to create a simple Colorful Wallpaper with the GIMP.Here is the final result of this tutorial -

Step 1

To begin,start with creating a new image of the size 800 by 600 pixels.

Step 2

Select the blend tool (Shortcut - L) and select the inbuilt gradient called “Full Saturation Spectrum CW”

Step 3

Apply the gradient on the background layer from Left to Right as shown in the image below.Press CTRL to make a straight blend.

Step 4

Go to Filters - Render - Clouds - Plasma…

And apply the filter with Turbulence of 2.8 .

Your Image should now look like this -

Now make a rectangular selection at the near bottom of the image of height 85 px like this -

Step 7

Create a new layer and fill the selection with white and change its opacity in between 30 % - 50 % on basis of what suits better on your background.

Step 8

Go to Filters - Light and Shadow - Drop Shadow and apply it with the following settings.Remember to uncheck the “Allow Resizing” checkbox.

You will now have the following result :-

Place any image/logo you like on the white bar along with some beautiful text and your wallpaper is ready.

    Thanks for this - very cool - made my own version.

    Just wondering if you know of any way to make the background plasma-raindbow more creamy/smooth in its transitions from one colour to the next?
